Permaculture Design for a Outdoor Kindergarden

I had the privilege to establish a garden at an Outdoor  Kindergarten in Germany.

The design is based on permaculture principles and includes a large variety of vegetables, herbs, shrubs and small trees.

The place, where there is now the veggie garden, was previously an abandoned small hill that was covered in nettles. I started to build terraces out of old tree logs, started to work the soil bit by bit and began mulching the area with organic material that was available to me. Every year we made new beds till at the end the entire hill was full of fresh veggies and herbs that the kids could harvest. The intention of the design is to create a space for biodiversity while at the same time producing food and teaching the children about food production.

The kids learn how to take care of plants, how they grow and what they need to be healthy.
